Kedah is located in the North of Peninsular Malaysia. Also knows as Kedah Darul Aman. Famous with the name of 'Negeri Jelapang Padi'. The area is estimated to be in excess of 9000 km, covering the mainland and Langkawi. Some terrain is flat land suitable for paddy fields. Alor Setar is the State capital, the Royal Town and the administrative centre of the Kedah state.

HISTORY OF KEDAH
Archaeological evidence found in the 'Lembah Bujang' reveals that a Hindu-Buddhist kingdoms rules Kedah may as early as 110 A.d. ancient. The discovery of the iron foundry, temple, sites and monument brick clay since to 110 Ad indicate the maritime trade routes with South India Tamil Government already established since that time. The findings in the 'Lembah Bujang' also makes Kedah as the oldest ancient civilizations in South east Asia.

In the 7 century and 8, under the loose control of Kedah, Srivijiya, later under Siam, until it was conquered by the Sultanate of Malacca in the 15 century. In the 17th century, Kedah was attacked by the Portuguese after their conquest of Malacca and Aceh. In the hope that British would protect what remained of Kedah from Siam, the Sultan handed Penang and Seberang Perai to English and then at the end of the 18 century. The Siamese nevertheless has centered around Kedah in 1811, and it remained under Siamese control until transferred to the British by the Anglo-Siamese Treaty of 1909.

In World War II, Kedah (along with Kelantan) is the first part of Malaya which was attacked by Japan. Japan handed over the Kedah to be under auspices of Thailand who has been named as Syburi, but Kedah was restored to British rule after the end of the war. Kedah is part of the Federation of Malaya in 1948.

Since 1958, the Sultan who rules Kedah is Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah. Sultanate of Kedah (Islam) began when in 9 century Ad, the King of Kedah, Maharaja Derbar Raja which had converted to Islam and changed his name to Sultan Mudzafar Shahi. Since then there have been 27 Sultans who rule Kedah.
